ON CALL ADVOCATE (PART-TIME)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, have access to personal transportation and be willing to travel to emergency room responses within 20 minutes, hotel placements, meetings, trainings, and other business related errand. On rare occasions, may be required to transport clients receiving emergency services.

COMPENSATION: Hourly rate is $3.00 per hour when on call and $15.00 per hour for direct response time. Position receives holiday pay when scheduled to work any CVIC observed holidays. This is a non-benefited position.

SUPERVISED BY: Director of Crisis Intervention

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

RESPONSIBILITIES

Crisis Line

* Assess situations reported to the agency’s 24-hour crisis line and make appropriate decisions regarding intervention to ensure the safety of domestic violence or sexual assault victims.
* Respond to Altru ER and/or Grand Forks Police Department for sexual assault or domestic violence emergencies and shelter placements.
* Make all necessary arrangements to provide safe housing, food, and other necessities to victims during responses to the 24-hour crisis line.

Individual Support and Advocacy

* Demonstrate professional listening skills in assisting clients on the crisis line with evaluation of their life situation and identification of possible courses of action.
* Provide victims with basic information on protection orders, and the role of the police during the interview process.
* Provide victims with support, safety planning and other appropriate services when taking a Lethality Assessment Protocol (LAP) phone call or responding to the ER.

Referrals

* Be familiar with and provide clients with referrals to community agencies and services including social services, mental health agencies, alcohol treatment centers, job services, food pantries, housing, educational institutions, and other emergency assistance services.

Record Keeping

* Maintain accurate, complete records.
* Timely submission of documentation related to contact with clients, call logs and timesheets according to established procedures.
