Salary/Position Classification
* $48,000+, dependent on experience, Exempt
* 40 hours per week
* This position will work onsite the Grand Forks, ND campus.
Purpose of Position

The Department of Physics and Astrophysics is seeking a 12-month, post-doctoral research fellow to conduct research in experimental quantum optics. The initial appointment will be for one year and is full-time and benefitted, with potential for renewal for a second year, pending annual review of performance and continued availability of funding.

Duties & Responsibilities
* Design, assemble and perform quantum optics experiments with heralded single photons.
* Characterize and maintain lasers, optical detectors and other laboratory equipment.
* Implement models of photon propagation and non-linear optics using python.
* Analyze results with PI and draft manuscripts for publication and proposals for external grants.
* Present research at conferences.
* Mentor junior team members.

Additional Information

Required Competencies * Familiarity with optical benchtop experiments, laser systems, and optical detectors * Excellent technical writing skills * Desire to solidify a research career in optics and establish and independent research direction Minimum Requirements * Ph.D. in experimental quantum optics or related field * Demonstrated evidence of publishing in peer-reviewed journals * Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
