RESIDENTIAL SHELTER STAFF (RSS)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma is required with related experience preferred.

COMPENSATION: Hourly rate begins at $15.00 for awake hours/direct service hours and $7.50 per hour for sleep hours. Work schedule is approximately 20 hours per week during the evenings and weekends including overnights where staff regularly sleep during the overnight hours of their shift with minimal disruptions. Position receives holiday pay when scheduled to work any CVIC observed holidays and accrues annual, sick and personal leave.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Be easily accessible and available for shelter clients and new intakes throughout shift hours.

* During scheduled shifts, reside in the staff quarters of Mary’s Place, CVIC’s shelter for children and adults fleeing violence.
* Inform director of shelter services of all shelter or client related situations that arise through e-mail reports at the end of shift.
* Prior to 11 p.m., work in the shelter office or common areas to increase accessibility to clients.
* Follow CVIC’s policies and procedures as they relate to the residential shelter staff position.

Responsible for the safety and well-being of shelter clients.

* Complete client intakes according to CVIC’s protocols and maintain accurate client records.
* Ensure new shelter clients receive shelter orientation, including a review of shelter policies.
* Attend to the immediate needs of clients and refer to a CVIC advocate, if needed.
* Provide emotional support, housing/employment/education assistance, advocacy and safety planning for shelter clients.
* Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with the North Dakota State Law and CVIC policies.

Shelter Operations.

* Follow safety policies/procedures and be knowledgeable of evacuation and other emergency procedures.
* Assist in menu, meal preparation, as well as grocery shopping, when needed.
* Assist in keeping the shelter clean and in good working condition.
* Report maintenance issues to the director of shelter services.

Attend staff meetings as required.
