    Pay Range: $41.08 - $61.62



    Summary:

    The Administrator on Duty monitors patient census, assists with admission placement, assists with staffing, interacts with patients and families, obtains supplies and equipment as needed, and performs complicated IV starts. Also schedules surgery and procedural cases after hours, calls in appropriate staff, is the lead responder in medical and facility emergencies, initiates the donor program, responds appropriately to the news media, assists after hours with needles sticks and exposures, communicates any physician/staff concerns with appropriate managers and directors, and has the authority for making administrative decisions on evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays in the absence of the manager and Administrative Director. Patients cared for include infant, children, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.



    Essential Job Functions:



    Reports pertinent information to oncoming AOD regarding patients' conditions, hospital communications, staffing concerns, as well as communicates variances, accidents, critical patients, staffing needs and any other concerns that would affect the next shift.

    Assigns personnel according to the classification, the variable staffing plan and qualifications of available staff. Monitors patient census, assists units in assignment of patient rooms and confers with each shift to control the workload on units. Calls in additional staff as needed to assure that a safe standard of care is provided. Monitors services by evaluating, initiating and participating in restructuring of current and new programs and services.

    Interacts with patients, patient's families, physicians, employees, Managers, Administrative Directors, legal counsel, Risk Management and other departments regarding concerns that arise.

    Responds to emergencies, initiates trauma procedure and directs activities. Serves as a member of the rapid response team utilizing expertise to assist staff nurses so codes don't occur on medical surgical units.

    Initiates actions and communicates with appropriate Manager any unusual situations. Assumes responsibility and has the authority for making administrative decisions on evenings, nights, weekends and holidays in the absence of the Manager or the Administrative Director.

    Schedules surgery, Cardiac Cath cases, and stress tests after hours and on holidays, notifies on call staff and patients. Assists in after hours employee health and infection control activities

    Performs complicated IV starts in all patient care areas.

    Assists family in viewing patients in the morgue. Initiates donor program, as appropriate.

    Works with regional facilities to assess patients' need for appropriate transfer to hospital care within Altru Health System (AHS) provider. Receives and documents all patient information, and communicates to accepting provider to assure continuity of care is maintained. Assists all parties involved with the transfer of urgent/same day admissions and coordinates nursing unit and bed arrangements.

    Performs pain assessment and takes appropriate action according to standard operating procedure.

    Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
