Key Responsibilities
* - Assist physicians in evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of respiratory disorders.
* - Evaluate patients and perform diagnostic tests (arterial blood gases, pulmonary function tests).
* - Develop respiratory treatment plans with physicians.
* - Monitor patient physiological responses to therapy.
* - Set up and operate mechanical ventilators and aerosol generators.
* - Manage life-support equipment in critical care settings.
* - Administer respiratory treatments (oxygen therapy, nebulizer treatments, chest physiotherapy).
* - Respond to emergency situations (cardiac arrest, trauma).
* - Collaborate with healthcare team on patient management.
* - Educate patients and families about disease management.
Certifications/Requirements
* - Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from NBRC required.
* - Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) minimum certification required.
* - BLS/ACLS certification required.
* - State licensure required (49 states regulate respiratory therapy).
Experience
* - Associate degree or higher from accredited respiratory care program (2-3 years).
* - Pass NBRC Therapist Multiple-Choice (TMC) examination.
* - Pass NBRC Clinical Simulation Examination (CSE).
* - 2+ years clinical respiratory care experience preferred.
* - Pass state licensure examination.
