Purpose of Position
The Zone Landscape/Grounds Specialist is primarily responsible for performing general labor and landscape work. This position will also oversee temporary, seasonal and/or institutional helpers to ensure proper care of the University’s Grounds and Landscaping.
Zone Landscape/Grounds specialists are also responsible for seasonal work such as snow removal, general maintenance to equipment and buildings, as well as assisting trades and building services.
All Facilities Management positions are subject to callbacks twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week.
Duties & Responsibilities
Landscape & Grounds Care
* Plant, fertilize, spray, water, prune, seed, propagate, and cultivate grasses flowers, bushes, trees and other plants/shrubbery with direction from University’s horticulturist.
* Remove weeds from all turf areas, hard surfaces, mulched beds and planting areas.
* Prune shrubs/trees with direction from University’s arborist.
* Paint/mow athletic fields and parking lot lines.
* Minor asphalt patching on campus roads and parking lots.
General Labor
* Perform general labor and landscape work such as picking up trash and litter, emptying of refuse containers, mowing grass, and operating maintenance equipment.
* Sweeping and vacuuming of designated paved areas.
* Required equipment operation includes riding/push lawn mowers, line trimmers, and chainsaw.
* General maintenance and upkeep of equipment.
Clerical Duties
* Maintain and enter correct work orders, use of materials, and labor hours.
* Check email and other computer-related tasks assigned, such as required training.
Snow Removal and Seasonal Miscellaneous Duties
* Run snow removal equipment on sidewalks and in parking lots on campus.
* Haul snow from parking lots.
* Plow, broom, blow and hand shovel snow as needed.
* Operate tractors, end loaders, sanders, Bobcats, Toolcats, utility vehicles, spreaders and other assigned equipment.
* Assist other trades personnel in other duties, as assigned. - (Essential)
