The City of Pembina ND is seeking a FT Public Works Assistant: The Public Works Assistant is the secondary person responsible for the maintenance and repair of the City water & sewer systems, streets, and City properties. This is a FT hourly position starting at $24/hour DOE. Position is 30+ hrs/week. Benefits include paid sick leave-2 weeks' vacation-10 holidays/year, medical insurance stipend, and clothing allowance (after 90 days employment). Wage increases for obtaining required certifications.

Duties:
Water: Fill in when the Superintendent is gone and assist to:
- Operate water treatment plant within State & Federal regulations
- Maintain accurate records & reports; file reports properly & promptly
- Maintain water plant equipment
- Maintain safe supply of necessary chemicals
- Keep water plant clean and in good repair
- Operate & maintain lagoon, sewage, and surface water pump stations and tower
- Flush sewers and hydrants as scheduled
- Install and maintain water meters within the service area
- Read meters monthly and as required by supervisor
- Coordinate repair of water/sewer lines as needed
Safety & Maintenance: Assist to:
- Maintain mowing of lagoon, dike & other City properties
- Remove snow, sand streets
- Sweep, repair, maintain streets
- Oversee the maintenance of City buildings and City beautification efforts
- Oversee the repair & maintenance of City equipment and buildings, addressing miscellaneous problems as they arise
Supervisory Duties:
- Develop & maintain periodical schedules for repetitive repair & maintenance duties
- Supervise & train part-time/Summer help
- Maintain daily job log, reporting to supervisor
- Complete any additional duties as assigned by supervisor
Certifications required to be obtained in a reasonable time frame: valid driver’s license; Class II Water Certification; Class I Sewer Certification; Class I Water Distribution; Class I Sanitary Distribution. Will receive wage increases for each certification obtained. Classes are paid for by the City.
Equipment operated: pumps, engines & testing equipment for quality water service; tractor, blade, loader, sweeper, truck for street maintenance; mowers; mechanical floor scrubber; miscellaneous hand/power tools.
Physical demands: navigate stairs several times daily; dexterity to crawl into holes to repair water/sewer line breaks or maintain water tanks; good visual acuity to identify problems; ability to climb ladders (i.e., light bulb replacement, painting, gutter work, etc.); physical strength to lift 50# (i.e., fill hoppers, crack seal, etc.).
